THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — The Palestinian foreign minister Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad al-Maliki accused Israel of apartheid and urged the United Nations’ top court to declare that Israel’s occupation of lands sought for a Palestinian state is illegal and must end immediately and unconditionally for any hope for a two-state future to survive. The remarks came at the start of historic hearings into the legality of Israel’s 57-year occupation of lands sought for a Palestinian state. — AP
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva
“What’s happening in the Gaza Strip isn’t a war, it’s a genocide,” Lula told reporters in Addis Ababa where he was attending an African Union summit on Sunday. “It’s not a war of soldiers against soldiers. It’s a war between a highly prepared army and women and children,” added the Brazilian president.

If the court doesn’t allow the appeal to go forward, he could be sent across the Atlantic.
