Weekend Quotables
Are Democrats prepping us for a change at the top of the ticket? Running against Trump is their best and maybe only chance.
It seems obvious that a desperate Democratic leadership, in trouble with the party’s own base, especially in battleground states like Michigan, is prepping us for a possible change at the top of the ticket. They currently have Kamala Harris standing in on the campaign trail for a hapless and obviously incapacitated Joe Biden, voicing a still weak, but somewhat more critical line on Israel following last week’s “flour massacre” in Gaza.
With Biden’s polling numbers in the toilet and no other prominent Democratics, i.e. Newsom, Pritzker, or Whitmer willing to risk a run at this late date, Harris is all they’ve got left on the bench.
But remember, Harris says a lot of things with little or no juice when it comes to putting her words into action. For example, this back in January she said...
“Under no circumstances will the United States permit the forced relocation of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank, the besiegement of Gaza, or the redrawing of the borders of Gaza.” — Vanity Fair.
Meanwhile, both Biden and Trump remain the somebodies nobody wants, with some polls showing that majorities of Americans don't want either to run. It takes some doing for any Democrat to be trailing this coked-up, fascist, international criminal in the polls. But Biden somehow is managing.
Weekend Quotables
Gov. JB Pritzker
During an East Coast swing ahead of tomorrow’s Super Tuesday primaries, Gov. JB Pritzker called Donald Trump a “putz” and an “ass” and said he is “stupid and ignorant.” but he said Illinois Democrats still want him on the ballot. “We want him on the ballot because he’s a detriment to Republicans across the United States but especially in Illinois.” — Politico
That’s good because the Supreme Court ruled today that states can’t keep a candidate off the ballot in a federal election. Dems wasted all that time, energy, and money for naught.
V.P. Kamala Harris
Harris urged and “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza.
People in Gaza are starving. The conditions are inhumane, and our common humanity compels us to act," Harris said at an event to commemorate the 59th anniversary of "Bloody Sunday" in Alabama. "The Israeli government must do more to significantly increase the flow of aid. No excuses," Harris said.
“They must open new border crossings. They must not impose any unnecessary restrictions on the delivery of aid. They must ensure humanitarian personnel, and convoys are not targeted. And they must work to restore basic services, and promote order in Gaza, so more food, water, and fuel can reach those in need.” — Independent
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA)
FTN host Margaret Brennan: “The President is having a problem WITH HIS BASE.”
Rep. Khanna: President Biden "needs to do something bold" as CBS News polling shows him struggling with his base. He suggests Biden should "call for a cease-fire" in Gaza and be the first president to "recognize a Palestinian state" and "have a two-state solution."— Face the Nation
Donald Trump
“…And I will not give one penny to any school that has a vaccine mandate or a mask mandate.” — USA Today
Levi Pierpont, conscientious objector, and friend of Aaron Bushnell
“There are thousands of military members similarly distraught, having thoughts of taking extreme actions to escape something that feels inescapable...If you’re a service member, I want you to know that you have options. You do not have to be complicit in genocide.” — Guardian
Her rhetorical condemnation of the ongoing catastrophe, however, did not attract as much attention as her call for an "immediate cease-fire."
The applause from the Selma, Alabama, crowd and her explicit call – the first instance such language has been used from the White House – drowned out the fact that Harris was pushing the deal on the table, which U.S. officials note Israel has effectively accepted. (Haaretz)
