Biden surrenders
"It's up to them," Biden said, when asked if people should wear masks on planes.
United States Coronavirus Cases: 82,628,089. Deaths: 1,018,154.
We’re planning to do some air traveling in the next few weeks. Heading down to Florida to visit family and get in some R&R. So I went to the walk-in clinic and got my 2nd booster shot yesterday. But after hearing Biden’s response to the press yesterday and seeing these pictures from the Miami airport (Ft. Lauderdale is even worse) I’m not feeling much like traveling. How about you?
Chicago’s weather doesn’t seem so bad after all.
American pols, pundits, and corporate CEOs are the smartest guys in the room when it comes to explaining how and how not, China should deal with its new upturn in Covid cases.
This from The Atlantic:
While much of the rest of the world has learned to live with the coronavirus—for good or ill—Chinese officials are still locking down cities, testing tens of millions of residents, and chasing down case after individual case, as they were two years ago. Somehow China will have to find new ways to cope, like everybody else.
This American imperial arrogance has long been personified by former President Trump who loved calling the virus the “Kung Flu” and claiming that the pandemic all began in a Chinese lab. Trump’s “China virus” tweets became the motive force behind a wave of attacks on Asian Americans and a call to arms to his MAGA base to resist all government-imposed masking and vaccine mandates.
As a direct result, the US soon rocketed to the top of the world in the number of reported Covid cases and most importantly in Covid deaths.
Here’s a recent headline from the BBC — SHANGHAI: CHINA REPORTS THREE DEAD IN LATEST COVID OUTBREAK.
Given that both countries are likely undercounting and underreporting their cases, we can only consider the reported numbers to be indicators. Nevertheless, in China, a handful of deaths in a city of 25 million is an indicator of an upsurge. In a US city like New York or Chicago, it would be an indicator of a miracle.
I’m not suggesting that the US should or could emulate China’s Zero-Covid approach. Well, on second thought, there is at least one thing we can and should copy. Universal healthcare for all citizens, rich or poor. That probably accounts more than anything for the marked difference in outcomes between the two countries — nearly a million fewer deaths.
While the latest upturn in cases worldwide is leading many countries (not just China) to take their preventative measures to the next level, that’s not the case here. Following the decision by a Trump-appointed federal judge to strike down the mask mandate for travel earlier this week, the White House appears to be sending out surrender messages, calling for a grand reopening of the economy and refocusing its attack on China for its harsh Zero-Covid campaign while making peace with Trump and the Republicans on the issue.
"That's up to them," Biden said, after a reporter asked, "Should people continue to wear masks on planes?"
You can’t get any more MAGA than that.
it's really creepy, drop the masks, and send the bombs. it's a death cult.
