Talking Jim Thorpe & Free Leonard Peltier
If you missed Friday’s show with guests Patty Loew and Nick Estes, you can listen to it now.
Northwestern Professor Patty Loew is the director of the Center for Native American and Indigenous Research at Northwestern University. She is a member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe. We talk about the legendary Indian athlete, Jim Thorpe, and more.
Also joining me is Native American activist Nick Estes with more on the case of Leonard Peltier. Nick is an Indigenous organizer, journalist, and historian. He has cofounded The Red Nation and Red Media.
This Guardian article with the latest in the Peltier case is a must-read and quotes Nick extensively.

Coming up Friday,
On February 3rd, my guest will be Chicago Tribune reporter Ray Long who’s been covering the upcoming mayoral election and the Michael Madigan connection. Ray is the author of The House That Madigan Built: The Record Run of Illinois' Velvet Hammer.
Tune in Friday, 11-noon CT, to WLPN 105.5 FM in Chicago or listen on the live stream at lumpenradio.com.
Hitting Left Music.
The show opened with the classic, Rumble by the great Native American rocker, Link Wray. We played the great Buffy St. Marie’s The War Racket at the break and went out with Leonard Peltier’s Still Serving Time, a song written and performed by HL listener Nick Juno.
Nick wrote us this note of appreciation.
Hi Mike,
I heard your podcast today and thought it was terrific You have such good information and guests on it. I've gone over a bunch of your older ones too. thank you so much for playing my song I really appreciate it! By the way, it's free out there online. I'm not charging anything for it because I don't want to make a penny off a cause like this!
Thanks again, nick
