The Democratic National Convention was a carefully choreographed spectacle. Every banner was controlled and decided by the convention organizers, and everyone, like sheep, held up the same signs at the appropriate times when they were told to do it. -- Democracy Now
Historian Barbara Ransby on the DNC's refusal to allow a Palestinian speaker:
Disgraceful. Absolutely disgraceful. I mean, and it was such a small ask. You know, we’re witnessing genocide in Gaza right now. — Democracy Now

The Minnesota delegation — and that’s an interesting delegation —had 10 uncommitteds. And they held up the names of Palestinians who had died in Gaza. And immediately, the other delegates in the Minnesota delegation, well prepared, held up “U.S.A.” signs that covered all of those signs. — Democracy Now

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson

Chicago Ald. Walter Burnett

Dod McColgan, protest organizer
“They tried to push us miles from the convention, denied us canopies to keep people safe from the sun, denied us sufficient port-a-potties, painted us as dangerous, and squeezed us onto smaller streets, but we burst through. Our message…Chicago will not rest until Palestine is free.” — Tribune

"How is [Netanyahu] supposed to know when [the army] doesn't tell him anything?" — Haaretz
What was missing in the Quotables was the general tenor of the convention with its emphasis on patriotism and Kamala Harris's speech which, clearly in an effort to pick up conservative voters and establish herself as a "strong" leader, spelled out plans to strengthen the military and implied the strengthening of American imperialism. By the way, did anyone notice that for a convention claiming to protect a woman's right to choose, in the last 2-3 days the word "abortion" was replaced by "reproductive freedom" and the examples moved more toward in vitro fertilization?
