Biden mimics Trump
Sends 1,500 more US troops to the southern border stop the 'migrant invasion'.
Donald Trump must be giggling with knee-slapping delight.
His nemesis and likely election opponent in ‘24, President Joe Biden, just announced that he is doing his best Trump imitation by sending 1,500 more troops to the southern border to deal with an “expected migrant surge.” Pentagon officials say the soldiers would be armed for self-defense but would not be assisting law enforcement. But those assault weapons they carry are useful for only one thing — not administrative tasks.
Remember back in 2018 when Trump announced he was sending thousands more US troops to Mexico on top of the 5,200 that had already been sent to combat a fake “invasion” by a caravan of migrants?
Democrats as well as some military officials were outraged. More than 100 Democratic members of Congress, including current House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, sent a letter to then-Defense Secretary James Mattis opposing the deployment, and accusing Trump of “exploiting the migrants” attempting to enter the country.
This time around, only a handful of Democrats dared to speak out against Biden’s troop deployment.
“The Biden Administration’s militarization of the border is unacceptable,” Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Bob Menendez said in a statement.
“There is already a humanitarian crisis in the Western Hemisphere, and deploying military personnel only signals that migrants are a threat that require our nation’s troops to contain. Nothing could be further from the truth.”
