My guest tomorrow on Hitting Left will be Kevin Gosztola who’s been out front on the struggle to free Australian journalist and Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange.
Kevin is an American journalist, and author known for work on whistleblower cases, WikiLeaks, national security, and civil liberties. Formerly the managing editor of Shadowproof, he writes for The Dissenter. Gosztola has covered the court-martial of Chelsea Manning as well as the extradition of Julian Assange.
His recent book, “Guilty of Journalism: The Political Case Against Julian Assange,” was released in March 2023.

For five years Julian Assange has been detained in Belmarsh, a high-security prison in the UK. As he fights the extradition request from the US authorities, Amnesty International’s Secretary General, Agnès Callamard, said:
“Julian Assange dared to bring to light revelations of alleged war crimes committed by the USA. It is unacceptable that years of his life have been stolen. He remains arbitrarily detained in the UK on politically-motivated charges, brought by the USA for exposing their suspected wrongdoing.

Mike, thanks for the show on Julian Assange. At the end of his term in office, Trump allegedly had Assange on his list of those to pardon; however, he didn't. Is not Assange's case one of US policy; therefore, whomever is in the white house is irrelevant? Both parties will try to exploit it 'for a minute' like Biden seemed to do recently, for political expediency. I didn't realize that the handling of classified documents had been changed from a midemeanor to a felony. I'm glad you asked your guest about the level of support Assange has been getting from US journalists prompting him to explain how those who have, unfortunately, have been doing the bare minimum. There is so little journalism in US mainstream media. I appreciate your efforts in the independent media, where one can more readily find journalists.
